Student Associate Therapist’s Post

In general, this placement opportunity will suit years three & four students who are looking to commit seriously to client hours and professional development. Lacap wants a robust, talkative & challenging culture. At the end of the student placement, there is an opportunity to be offered associate membership of lacap.

Lacap’s low-fee client work is part-funded by direct fee contributions from its low-fee client group that are assessed according to individual means & range from £6 to £20. This is handled by lacap by direct monthly invoicing. Additional funding is sourced by a % contribution from fees generated by higher fee clients received at lacap.

Lacap is looking to sustain long term, once-weekly, psychotherapy treatments of 130-140 client hours per week in the 2008/09 academic year. Lacap is looking to find student associates for a 20th September 2008 onwards start date.

The student associate’s contract will be for a minimum of one and a maximum of two academic years ending July 2009. The year is divided into three terms, and totals 44 weeks.

Each student will receive a minimum caseload of four clients and a maximum of eight. The clients will have been assessed and screened. The initial caseload of three at the start date will be added to at the rate of one per three weeks to achieve up to (max) eight  clients by the end of term one, and ‘topped up’ in terms two on for terminations.

About Casework & Supervision

Caseload work days are either a Saturday or a Sunday, between the hours of 8am & 6pm, or between 8am to 12 noon weekdays.

Lacap offers extensive supervision, although this cannot replace individual supervisions by the student associate’s own training organization, which must be at the rate consistent with that training organizations requirement. Student associate’s are required to external supervision.

In each term there will be three individual supervisions and three group supervisions (where a group cohort is six members). In addition, in each term there will be three case presentations by analysts from different orientations active in the field, and the student associates’ are expected to arrange for three peer group supervision sessions per term.

All nine group meetings per term: group supervision, case presentations and peer group supervisions, will take place on a weekday evening from 7pm to 8.30pm Individual supervisions by arrangement at suitable times. Attendance is required at 80%.

Handwritten case notes are a requirement, are the property of lacap.
